Birth Chart Basics: Natal Lunar Gifts

BLOG_04-11-21.png

Happy Sunday, fam! I’m back with the promised Natal Lunar installment of the birth chart basics series. I’m always pretty pumped to talk about the Moon in any capacity, but especially to share how her cycle influences our own natural rhythms—getting grounded and coming home to the wildness within us all.

If you haven’t already, go ahead and read last week’s birth chart basics blog on how to align your inner work with the Moon’s natural 28-day cycle. Today is the perfect day to begin your Moon journey—April 11, 2021—because we’re actually kicking off a new Lunation!

Happy New Moon in Aries, the first New Moon of the astrological new year + Spring—check out my Equinox blog post for more information about utilizing Aries energy for setting new intentions to help you initiate your New Moon ritual and ground yourself in this season of growth. It’s not too late to cast your list + get organized around your goals and my Equinox blog post is full of actionable tips for getting started.

This week we’ll be looking at our birth chart to find out the Moon Phase we were born under and learning how that phase provides us with some extra Lunar finesse—natural gifts layered on top of our Moon sign + house placement.

As we’ve covered in the birth chart basics series before—if you haven’t caught up, don’t sweat it! I have links to all the BCB posts at the end of this blog—nothing in our chart + cosmos happens in a vacuum. The gifts provided by each natal Lunar phase are meant to be interpreted + activated through the lens of her zodiac sign placement, her house placement, and any major aspects she’s energetically engaged with in your chart.

I’m always looking to encourage the pursuit of deep inner work through the lens of astrology because our birth chart is truly a blueprint of the complexities and magic within us. Some we are born with, some we are meant to uncover along the way—a delicious unfolding of fate + free will. This work can be, more often than not, vulnerable and difficult for us to confront.

As we’re moving into Spring + setting our intentions for the astrological year ahead, for the next Lunation, or even just for the next few days, I thought it would be encouraging to make note of what we’re capable of—magic. Your Natal Moon Phase is a reaffirming bit of magic—a “you’ve got this, keep going.”

I hope you enjoy learning a little bit more about your own inner strengths. Let’s get into-it!

Natal New Moon

Waxing, 0-45 Degrees

Leaders + change-makers

In Conjunction with the Sun—when the Sun’s zodiac sign placement and the Moon’s zodiac sign placement are the same.

A New Moon phase in the birth chart lends toward a cardinal nature in one’s authentic being. Because New Moons are a time for new beginnings, a natal New Moon placement provides one with a kick-starter mentality: someone who actively seeks change and is able to renew + pivot based solely on their intuition. This is someone who harnesses pure potential where others see only darkness.

This initiative spirit can be seen as an added bonus to the natal Moon’s qualities, and it’s initiation—the flavor of and appetite for change—will vary depending on the zodiac sign placement of the New Moon in the chart.

Natal Crescent Moon

Waxing, 45-90 Degrees

Growth + knowledge seekers

A Crescent Moon in the birth chart lends toward a curious nature: those who find ample value in the initial growth phase of their ideas, intentions, and pursuits. This phase signifies a striving mentality. Those born under the Crescent Moon come into life with a willingness to activate their own growth and to foster their process of evolution with vigor.

Independence and exploration will be key for harnessing the sprouting potential within their authentic being. The nature of the data collected and the preferred style + pace of personal evolution is determined by the zodiac sign placement of the Crescent Moon in the chart—where do you grow? Wherever you’re planted.

Natal First Quarter Moon

Waxing, 90-135 Degrees

Forming a Square aspect to the Sun—a time of friction and energy.

Innovative + creative thinkers

A First Quarter Moon in the birth chart signifies the scrappy spirit of a builder and a problem solver. I like to compare that scrappy spirit to the strengths of the Mutable Signs—a modality that inclines one to pivot, to take renewed action, to rebuild, and to resolve conflict with a natural finesse.

The First Quarter lunar influence governs out-of-the-box thinking and innovative creative intelligence. When a problem arises, this natal lunar placement inclines one to see an opportunity in place of a setback. The methods and pace of this scrappy spirit is dependent on the zodiac sign placement of the First Quarter Moon in the chart.

Natal Gibbous Moon

Waxing, 135-180 Degrees.

Motivated + insatiable expanders

A Gibbous Moon in the birth chart signifies a naturally sharp and analytical approach to processing + integrating new information. Natal Gibbous Moon placements are one of perfectionism. It’s an innate state of “waiting with bated breath.”

This natal phase influences one to believe they are always on the cusp of some greater revelation, a bigger lesson, a fuller potential. That feeling translates to an innate drive to always be seeking, to always be learning, to always be calling in the next piece of the puzzle in order to finally see that bigger picture.

The flavor of the seeking and methods of interpretation are dependent on the zodiac sign placement of the Gibbous Moon in the chart.

Natal Full Moon

Waning, 180-135 Degrees

In Opposition to the Sun—occupying the opposite zodiac sign as the Sun’s zodiac placement.

Natural Seekers + Reflectors

A Full Moon in the birth chart breeds an idealist mentality: the wide-eyes of someone who believes they have access to the fuller vision of all things. This open and raw perspective on life can drive Full-Moon-pursuits of the soul and of deeper passions.

Natal Full-Mooners will feel called to pursue belief systems, careers, relationships, and experiences that they can relate to on a deeper, soul level. There is a natural objectivity for this natal lunar phase. Like the Full Moon’s opposition to the Sun, Natal Full-Mooners are vessels and translators for the distant light of truth + knowledge—reflecting that back onto others through their own perspective.

The projection style and methods of absorbing + perceiving knowledge is dependent on the zodiac sign placement of the Full Moon in the chart.

Natal Disseminating Moon

Waning, 135-90 Degrees

Authentic + experienced teachers

A Disseminating Moon in the birth chart reflects a natural drive to teach and to share with others. Because this lunar phase follows the given clarity of the Full Moon, this natal Disseminating placement makes for natural communicators.

Those born under a Disseminating Moon arrive with a philosophical edge, an innate ability to teach others and they have the drive to spread their own authentic message. The message shared comes from the experience they’ve gained and they feel called to provide others with the tools to see the bigger picture themselves.

The style and delivery of communication + insight is dependent on the zodiac sign placement of the Disseminating Moon in the chart.

Natal Last Quarter Moon

Waning, 90-45 Degrees

Forming a Square aspect to the Sun—a time of friction and energy.

Intuitive + sensitive processors

A Last Quarter Moon in the birth chart reflects those who require a tender and attentive internal processing of their emotions and their opinions of their external reality. Where the First Quarter called us to act, the Last Quarter calls us to reflect on those actions. We’re called to ruminate, to isolate, and to rest—activities those born under this lunar phase will need more of than others.

Where some people may go for external input or guidance, those born under a Last Quarter Moon instead prefer to go within for the clarity they’re seeking, for grounding themselves in their emotions, and for initiating personal transformations.

The capacity to balance their internal + external resources is dependent on the zodiac sign placement of the Last Quarter Moon in the chart.

Natal Balsamic Moon

Waning, 45-0 Degrees

Wise + transparent mentors

A Balsamic Moon in the birth chart reflects innate wisdom. The seemingly minuscule final arch of the Moon is not to be mistaken for something simple. It is actually all of the knowledge of that lunation distilled into its purest form.

This lunar phase gives those born under it nuggets of wisdom, with a natural ability to transmute what is most essential and give that knowledge to others. This clear and progressive vision may alienate them but their surrender to the authentic depths within them can only serve their purpose moving forward.

The depth at which their vision permeates and their preferred style of transmutation + communication is dependent on the zodiac sign placement of the Balsamic Moon in the chart.

Are you feeling inspired by the Moon’s power? Her governance over our emotional security + intuition is not to be taken lightly. When we’re willing to work with her and to accept her in all of her phases, we may find it easier to accept our own phases as well.

Like the Moon, we will naturally ebb and flow. We honor ourselves when we accept ourselves where we’re at and work with what we have available.

We can also cultivate patience + trust in the process, because we know that the next cycle will always come around to teach us something new. There is no failure here, there is only new information to be learned and new ways of being + showing up in reaction to that information. The Moon will rise and we will try again—if she for some reason doesn’t, well that would be possibly cataclysmic and we’d have bigger fish to fry, wouldn’t we?

Drop me a DM on instagram or comment below about your Natal Lunar gifts and what intentions you’ll be setting under this Aries New Moon! I’d love to celebrate this period of growth with you, and shed a little bit of my own light on your journey ahead.

Stay grounded, stay curious, and stay in your magic.
